Maybe a Texan can explain

It took 40 minutes or more to breach the school and take down the shooter. And when it was done, it was done by a tactical squad from the U.S. Border Patrol -- we are talking about 50+ miles from the border -- that the Texas Governor claims is ineffectual and not doing their job, while Uvalde residents complained their local law enforcement stood around outside doing nothing.

Have y'all asked Gov. Abbott to define effectual without using political labels?

Cops are cowards.. this isn't the first time they waited for backup.. FORTY MINUTES while hearing gunfire KILLING CHILDREN.. they actually tackled a parent who tried to go in.. video shows parents pleading for police to go in and do something as the sound of gunfire rang out.. FORTY MINUTES..every officer who stood by needs to be charged with MASS MURDER

@Onestarlitnight I'd like to see you put on a uniform, put on a badge, grab a gun, and stride toward the guy with the assault rifle shooting kids.

@LordShadowfire
So a cop with a uniform, gun and a badge SHOULDN'T "stride towards a man" killing children ??? Seriously??
I mean SERIOUSLY?? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE
romell · 51-55, M
@Onestarlitnight surprised man with weapon authorized to use by the government doesn't do so but gun aws would permit everyone to have a weapon to self protection..so my question s is if I as a father took my weapon to protect my kids from getting slaughtered what wrong would that be since the police aren't doing anything..
@romell
You'll be a hero in my eyes.. people need to DO SOMETHING..
Obviously police WON'T

@LordShadowfire
Police who won't take out thier guns to confront a man killing children in a school are COWARDS.. it doesn't matter how he's armed..
You put on that uniform and do what's necessary. Waiting forty minutes listening to shots killing children is cowardice.. THAT'S THE TRUTH.
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@Onestarlitnight Then go to the police academy and show them how it's done.

@LordShadowfire
YES! EMPHATICALLY YES YES YES.. IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES BECAUSE THEY ARE POLICE OFFICERS , ARMED AND TRAINED AND LITTLE CHILDREN WERE BEING SHOT..
YES! RISK THIER LIVES.. YES...
Unbelievable that this is even a question..
Unarmed parents at the scene tried to go in.. there's video of them BEGGING THESE COWARDS to do SOMETHING as they're listening to gunshots..

There isn't any debate here.
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@Onestarlitnight And you feel they should do it when there's only two of them and a guy with a semi-automatic rifle who's shooting everybody in sight, so that they themselves can die uselessly. You're right, this isn't a debate. This is me arguing with an idiot.

@LordShadowfire
Four, six, ten officers waiting FORTY MINUTES
How much backup is required... ONE MAN went in WITHOUT BACKUP .

@Onestarlitnight and @LordShadowfire Hey @One i agree that is very very cowardice to stand outside in uniform with others 100000000% in agreement..ITS YOUR JOB TO FACE CONSEQUENCES they volunteered to be cops..DO YOUR EFFING JOB and if you happen do die in the line of duty..so be it....
@Shadow should they put there life at risk common sense says NOPE but you know what...look at the situation elementary school shooter with KIDS as targets... ya know... i am headed in dont care... especially if there is even 1 other person on my side....we can take him..we can distract or something. But to stand by yeah... they(the ones watching outside) need to get fired or resign... you(the ones that stood by) are not up to the task of being a Police officer and putting yourself in harms way aka DOING YOUR JOB!!!

@LordShadowfire Taking the job and position and then choosing to be ineffectual while children are veing slaughtered most certainly does make you a coward.

Telling someone else to run in is a logical faplacy arguement because said person didn't choose to accept that career.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Onestarlitnight I am not going to argue that ACAB might apply in Texas. But our local police do a tough job with a minimun of force under impossible conditions and have earned the broader communities support. So how about we we settle on ACABIT (in texas)😷

@LordShadowfire Therein lies the difference between bravery and cowardice, the brave run towards the danger, cowards stand back. I'm not saying police should blindly run into danger but if they aren't capable of making the decision between protecting themselves and protecting the innocent, then they have no business being first responders, it's part of the job to put themselves at risk to protect others. Police are usually trained to deal with situations like these and how to avoid being killed, doesn't mean they won't get injured though but most of them know that and accept it.
MethDozer · M
@spjennifer Exactly. But to be fair police training in this country is pretty dog shit. Like you said though, they signed up for that role.
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@MethDozer I can't comment on what training these specific Police Officers received as I don't know but I do know it doesn't take much training to understand that their job is to protect others, they didn't and children died on their watch, they'll have to live with that for the rest of their lives...
