Should everyone in the US conform to the teachings of the Evangelical Church?

Are the Evangelicals the driving force behind the Republican Party?

Religious nuts and gun nuts are the GOP's base.
There is no "Evangelical Church", but there *are* "evangelical" Christians...though (paradoxically!) they often spout things contrary to the teachings of Jesus and they often do not "evangelize".

But, to get to your points...

1) No church/set of religious beliefs (or even cult beliefs) should be the tail wagging all of America, even if 95% of Americans were of a single belief system.

The Establishment clause is about this.

2) Yes, with the large admixture of the conspiracy theories (QAnonsense, etc.).

I think you've got a good bead on American politics... 😮‍💨😟😢

Some American Christians do believe in dominionism, the idea that America is meant to be a Christian Bible-based nation. These are probably the same people fear-mongering about Sharia, because it’s a competing religious law.
@SW-User Our God takes precedence over your God instead of Separation of Church and State.

They are not, but they are certainly the driving force behind every GOP electoral victory since they put Ronald Reagan in the White House, going to Cheeto Benito.
@Northwest Reagan was the first to realize he needed their votes to win. Now the Evangelical Church is a well organized, well funded tax free voting block.

I’m expecting a repeat of the Spanish Inquisition.
