There is no "Evangelical Church", but there *are* "evangelical" Christians...though (paradoxically!) they often spout things contrary to the teachings of Jesus and they often do not "evangelize".
But, to get to your points...
1) No church/set of religious beliefs (or even cult beliefs) should be the tail wagging all of America, even if 95% of Americans were of a single belief system.
The Establishment clause is about this.
2) Yes, with the large admixture of the conspiracy theories (QAnonsense, etc.).
