Did you have a paper route when you were younger?

[c=800000]If so, do you have any interesting stories to share? [/c]
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Ya and those fuckers used to make us collect the payment each month. We were little kids haggling with adults about a bill. I remember people cussing us out over 50 cents..
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Quetzalcoatlus @Eddiesolds We had to collect as well, and I heard the same complaining. But back then, people often paid us in silver coinage since they were circulating at the time. I had a great collection of silver quarters as a result!
Eddiesolds · 56-60, M
@windinhishair very nice. Have you still got them?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Eddiesolds I do actually. Almost all were Washington quarters from 1932 to 1964, with a couple of common Standing Liberty Quarters from 1925 to 1930. They aren't worth much more than silver content, but they have sentimental value.

Yup...,

Once stopped paper delivery because of non-payment (2 months), boy was he furious !

Many years later ended up working with him, for me it felt uncomfortable at first but it seems he for gave me because he knew I had every right to do so, we ended up good friends.

@eyeno very nice.
Toepatrol · 31-35, M
There was this old man named herbert who kept luring me into his basement with candy
Wasn’t he the cub scout master who owned a dildo shop? @Toepatrol
nedkelly · M
@Toepatrol Also known as Joe Biden
Toepatrol · 31-35, M
@stratosranger and the swimming coach!
nedkelly · M
Yes, nothing real interesting but a honest job to learn people skills and responsibilities
Eddiesolds · 56-60, M
Yes i did..I had a girl that had a crush on me,fill my papers with snow. Why would she do that? So funny.
craig7 · 70-79, M
Yes,just one time when I replaced another boy who had gone on holidays. There was a big upsurge in my sales at the time, late 1963 - not because of me,but it was the week following JFK's assassination ; demand for papers stayed high even as the story started to drop away from the headlines here in Australia.
ProfessorPlum77 · 61-69, MVIP
@craig7 That is an interesting memory. Thank you for sharing!
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@craig7 Many people here in the US bought extra papers to save them here in the US. Kennedy Assassination newspapers are very common to this day.
As an adult, I did. Walk route, drive route, kiosks and stores....
A lot changed from what it was for kids to deliver.
Christmas was a great time to deliver...lots of tips and gifts. :)
I remember the first year the newspaper company decided we had to deliver papers on Christmas day. I just didn't deliver them and got one complaint out of three routes! lol
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
I delivered papers when it was 85 cents for the whole week and retired from it, when it was 1.35 a week, many moons ago. It was a four year high school gig for me.

112 on sunday
87 daily.
I did not, i helped my brother. Sundays and holidays were the worst, you have to get up early to deliver and people never had money to pay the bill.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Yes my friends and I all did. We used to stick our newspaper ties and wrapping into the delivery guy's back bumper to be annoying.
I had a few back in the day.
I can't remember anything interesting that happened.
Yep, but no interesting stories about it really
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
No, but me and a friend were sitting in my car at 4 am one morning in the 1970s tripping on LSD 25 and a van pulled up, guy got out with a huge stack of newspapers, came over and sat them down in the backseat of my car and said here you go. Does this count? Needless to say we were freaking out😂😮🤔😊😂
ProfessorPlum77 · 61-69, MVIP
@BackyardShaman [c=800000]Absolutely! That is HILARIOUS! That should be a funny take in some movie. [/c]
