Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Prompted by another post but who would The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse be today?

War
Famine
Fuel Shortage and
No Internet.

Any alternatives?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
War and Famine, yes.

Pandemics of diseases even more dangerous than Covid (e.g. a virulent form of the Black Death, or one of the haemorragic ones like Ebola; both very fast-acting).

Social breakdown.

'''
Not so sure about Fuel Shortage without defining what fuels and purposes - there are several of the former and many of the latter.

No Internet? Its collapse would cause serious disruption for a while but I'd hardly call it apocalyptic. Remember it is only a few decades old; and in some respects although other forms of communications are slower, they could mean much slimmer, better-thought and more efficient ways of working.

He rode a pale horse and it was "Death" 😢
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Peaches Never goes away.
Peaches · F
@GeniUs The horse is galloping even faster these daze! ☠️
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Yeah I was hoping for a more light hearted view of the 4 horsemen, I don't know if anybody noticed my choices started off seriously but deteriorated quickly...
pinkie · 51-55, M
@ArishMell good analysis👌
Peaches · F
@GeniUs Oh! 🤭 No, I didn't notice.👀 Sorry!
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Peaches It's good to revisit these things maybe have a go at the Four Horse Persons of the Party!!!!!

Slight correction:

Deliberately manufactured War
Deliberately manufactured Famine
Deliberately manufactured Fuel Shortage
Deliberately manufactured Cyber Attacks
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@gol979 Aye, all far worse than Facebook et al.: Nos. 2 and 3 a common side-effect of No.1 even if not the aim, and No.4 a likely new weapon for No.1.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@ArishMell a common side effect of tyranny
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@gol979 Indeed - not always wilful but often by negligence and neglect.

War and population displacement
Famine and water stress
Extreme climate events
Enormous cars driven by people who don't care 😔
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl A sequence there... if re-arranged a bit.

No.4 won't help and is implicated in No3; possibly leading to No.2 that itself could lead to extensive population displacement and possibly wars.
Just to be totally traditional, the old testament book of Ezekiel has: sword, famine, wild beasts & pestilence

By the time of the new testament book of Revelations they had changed it to: Conquest war famine plague

Myself I'm a little unclear on the distinction between war & conquest, but getting rid of wild beasts was definitely a good move. These days it's the loss of wild beasts that seems to signal approaching apocalypse.

So here's my version: nuclear winter, eco-disaster, famine & plague.
Lostpoet · M
I'm famine
Lostlissa is war
Tacobell is fuel shortage
Zonnuss is no Internet
Peaches · F
@Lostpoet Very funny!😆
Carissimi · F
It’s, pestilence: Covid, War: Ukraine, Famine: food shortages, and Death: people have, are, and will die from all three, and possibly nuclear.

I heard this from Mark Steyn on GB news, but he said it better.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
No internet.... Actually the ways things are going I wonder if returning to slower but intrinsically safer ways may be necessary, for many organisations and situations.
Facebook: famine, everyone stuffing themselves with nothing .

insta : pestilence - a disease of self interest

Twitter: death by a thousand cuts but you don't bleed.

TikTok: war of Idiocracy.

🤷
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@OogieBoogie At least no-one needs use those sites (nor, come to that, Similar Worlds).

Aren't all those four though, predicated on the trait you ascribe to Insta: self-interest, and narcissistic at that?
@ArishMell it was just meant to be amusing, and slightly mean.😏🤷
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@OogieBoogie I know. I did take it as satirical!

@msros I see him more as one of Nostradamus' 'great Satans', I think that's what he called them it's been a while since I read any interpretations of his words.

Edit: He could be both I guess...
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@GeniUs I have read Nostradamus. Unfortunately my knowledge of classical mythology wasn't good enough to understand what he was trying to say.
