Not Biden's fault he just inherited the war, the troops on the ground were supposed to have trained the Afghans. Twenty years is too long.

@WSEIII

Keep in mind that Biden was never into the notion of nation-building.

@beckyromero Can anyone think of anything sippy-cup biden had a notion to do....except making himself rich, of course

I agree with many aspects of Biden's foreign policy and proposals over the years. Breaking up Iraq, for example, I think would be an excellent idea.

Pulling out of Afghanistan is not one of them, though. But, sadly, it's a reflection on the lack of will among the American public in general to commit to the final rebuilding of Afghanistan into a true democracy.

Not to say it wouldn't be incredible difficult. It's a landlocked nation.

@beckyromero Breaking up Iraq is one of the very few things he's got the right idea on.

Pulling out of Afghanistan was as necessary as anything though. Blah blah the Taliban took over, they would have done so no matter when we withdrew. If we'd left five years ago,the Taliban would have taken over. If we'd left ten years ago, the Taliban would have taken over. If we'd have waited fifteen years from now, the Taliban would take over then too.It's been twenty years. We've spent two trillion dollars on the war alone, and an addition ninety billion on training the Afghani defense force. All we've done is make the situation worse. There was no "final rebuilding of Afghanistan" to be done. We trained over 300,000 Afghan soldiers and equipped them with all the best weapons and military tech. And when the Taliban showed up, they just didn't fucking care. Because it's been two decades of a fake government entirely held together by foreign money, foreign influence, and foreign power.

If our efforts were to set up an Afghani democracy, we failed not just in the end, but continuously over the entire course of the war because the only thing that happened was increased Taliban control and massive amounts of collateral damage. Lots of dead Americans, exponentially more dead Afghans, a shitload of taxpayer money used to on weapons, equipment, and infrastructure that has now gone right into the hands of the Taliban, and they're no better than they were on day one.

We didn't invade the country to set up a democracy. We invaded because we wanted to apprehend Osama Bin Laden for his actions in the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He's been dead for over ten years, and we found him in fucking Pakistan.

@WSEIII Biden was vice president for 8 years, and a US senator before that. He was a big part of the decision to go to war in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was the second most senior member of the Obama administration and in a position to influence the conduct of the war, including the training of the Afghan military.
WSEIII51-55, M
@Heartlander Okay my bad.

@BlueMetalChick

I've said it before and will so again.

We should have armed the WOMEN of Afghanistan.

With political power, rights and, yes, weapons.
BlueMetalChick26-30, F
@beckyromero Well, it certainly worked for the Kurds. It is a strong belief in Salafist Islam that it is dishonorable for a man to be killed by a woman, and if he is, he will go straight to hell with no chance for redemption in the eyes of Allah. The fear of being shot and killed by a female soldier and subsequently condemned to an afterlife of eternal suffering was so overwhelming that a significant number of Salafist insurgents flat out refused to fight against all-female Kurdish brigades. Which is pretty fucking based if you ask me.
IronHamster56-60, M
@WSEIII Wrong. Look, Biden was right that we needed to leave. You might be right that you need your appendix removed, but you can Trump that by hiring a skilled surgeon or Biden it by hiring a drunk with a pocket knife.
