Hurricane Helene update.

We have a tornado warning in effect for the next half hour and we just lost our electricity. There is some serious wind going on too. No rain at the moment though.
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
Hope you make it through this okay. We're just getting rain in NC and it looks like the western part of the state will get the worst of it. We may get rain and wind.

Stay safe my friend
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@Musicman hope it helps
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@JohnnyNoir It definitely does. Thank you very much 🙂
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@JohnnyNoir How are you guys making out? Has Helene passed you yet?
Tornado?...oh gosh.

Watching the live footage from down there, it's getting rough.
In some parts, agencies told people sheltering in-place to write their name and DOB on their arms and legs....in case.

Hope you guys are out of the direct path, and okay.

🙏

@SethGreene531 I agree. I personally feel they made a very poor decision. They are definitely lucky to be alive. God definitely watched over them.

I am watching the news, and it looks like you are experiencing the outer edges of the storm.
4meAndyou · F
@Musicman It's moving at 16 mph. I can't seem to find the distance between Tampa Bay and Big Bend...but they lost power in Tampa Bay at 4 pm. I am going to guess it will hit Big Bend by 9 pm. and will make landfall there in a really horrible way around midnight.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@4meAndyou We still have the wind and rain here.
4meAndyou · F
@Musicman Well, at least it is moving north. But it is a HUGE storm!

Florida has been through more than a category 4 before, but it's rare. And it all depends on path and also the amount of time endured. Recent hurricanes that stall and deliver rain measured in feet has the national hurricane centre reexaming how they measure. Be safe, if you are staying have non perishables with you. Once you decide to stay you have only so many choices.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@SW-User That is true. Plus you need to have some cash. If the Internet is down people don't take credit cards. Cash is king. After hurricane Ian. Stores and restaurants didn't take credit cards for a month.
SW-User
@Musicman Cash would be king. I read of places that at times won't have electricity for upto a month after a hurricane. People don't just pick up and leave so easily. They are often tied by family and/or their work. That's if they have a home to go to. I'm lucky in Ontario, while we may experience relative extremes in temperatures and weather in other ways, the idea of being displaced here is extremely rare.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@SW-User You are definitely right. During those times some, and I repeat some, grocery stores and gas stations have generators and will be open, but only for limited hours per day and none will accept credit or debit cards. Then even some of the major highways will either be flooded or torn up so gas stations and stores can't be resupplied and people can't leave town to go to another town that has electricity to shop.

There has been some serious wind going on here too, for a few hours now. Also tornado warnings, but I am seeing conflicting reports about whether there any currently active ones for your county...or mine.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Piper We just had one touch down in our area about a half hour ago. Fortunately we are fine, but our electricity is out.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Musicman Good to know that you are fine, and have that lovely motorhome...with power.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Piper As soon as the storm passes we are heading out to the RV. We have been without electricity for an hour and a half now.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M

Confined · 56-60, M
@Musicman when i drive to Florida each year i start out at like 2am. Not as much traffic after midnight. If you can get rested, may want to drive at night. Keep in touch.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Confined We didn't even get into the campground until almost midnight. Traffic was still horrendous. We are getting ready to pack up and leave now.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Milton to be a borderline Cat5. WOW
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@carpediem That's what they say. The county ordered us to evacuate this morning.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Musicman Stay safe
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@carpediem We are leaving the state. We only got a third of the way yesterday. Traffic was just terrible.
StarLily · 51-55, F
Hope you're okay.
StarLily · 51-55, F
@Musicman Oh, thank goodness.
InHeaven · F
@Musicman so, that Helen storm already passed and it wasn’t as big deal as they made it sound?
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@InHeaven We are in Southern Florida. It was a Tropical Storm as it passed us. It didn't make hurricane strength until it was almost to Tampa.
carpediem · 61-69, M
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@carpediem All good. No damage at our house at all. 🙂
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Musicman My friends in Pinellas didn’t have the same luck. The beach communities are a mess
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@carpediem I have seen pictures. We have been praying for the people affected by Helene. 🙏🙏🙏
Confined · 56-60, M
Morning. Status report?
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP

Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@OldBrit Thank you very much. It's 4:17 am now and the storm is well past us now. Our electricity is back on now too.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Justmeraeagain Thank you very much 🙂
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
How are things? Hope you're well out of it by now and things are improving
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Are you okay now
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Jenny1234 @JohnnyNoir @carpediem The storm has passed. We are healthy and safe. Our property didn't have any damage. We were truly blessed. There was limited flooding in our area. One RV park on the Myakka river flooded bad and was under water. I felt so bad for them. We lost electricity for 10 hours. Florida Power and Light says everyone in our area should have their power restored by Sunday night.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
Please stay safe
Hopefully You and the Mrs are safe and moved everything to the RV.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@NativePortlander1970 Not yet. The wind and rain is to strong right now. We have to let everything pass first.
