Hurricane Helene update.

@SethGreene531 That is horrible! Fortunately we are definitely out of the path and the storm has passed us by. We are still getting a little wind and rain, but nothing like this afternoon.

@Musicman Yeah, that, and the footage coming in is pretty sobering.

Relief to know you guys are okay. The wind slacking off is a good sign. It's likely headed away from you then.

Having the motorhome as an independant back-up is a relief, I'm sure!

We're getting moderate rain, light winds here in Maine, but I think it's unrelated.
Meanwhile, there's another hurricane upper mid Atlantic, headed for Portugal/Bermuda. Then the Irish coast.

@SethGreene531 I agree. Your rain is definitely not from Helene. The motorhome is definitely a blessing. Normally we evacuate for hurricanes, but they said this one was just going to be a Tropical Storm so we stayed home. Actually it wasn't bad as it passed us. But, then it grew to a cat 4 hurricane. May God bless the people in the big bend up there. 🙏🙏🙏💔😥

Some tense moments for you I'm sure as it reved up to a CAT 4. Does your motorhome have hydraulic stabizers that extend when the sides are out?
You likely didn't need them by the sound of it, it was more a grazing wind than a blunt impact.

Just watching a live military air traffic radar map. Theres a C-130 at 10,000 orbiting the gulf just west of Tallahassee near big bend. Think they're in the eye taking readings. Wind gusts at altitude of 160kts.

@SethGreene531 No. We don't have hydraulic jacks. We actually level on our air suspension. We are to the point now where we don't feel or hear the wind in the RV.

Think its at, or nearing big bend now. WNW of Cedar Key. Half the residents without power there.
700,000 across the state.

Something to do with its approach speed is spawning tornadoes as well.

@SethGreene531 A lot of people are without power. And a lot more people are going to lose power as this storm comes ashore. ☹

It's been a rough 5 years for Florida and the Gulf Coast. Every year seems to exceed the previous in strength and number.

There was an older man earlier, saying he'd be riding this out onboard his boat 😳

@SethGreene531 I read an article this morning about two commercial fishermen who rode out the storm on their boats in the big bend area. Fortunately they survived. I would have never had the nerve for that.

@Musicman They're lucky to be alive.
Yeah, I can't begin to imagine how terrifying that was.

In a small fishing skiff or even a trawler, that's certain death.

@SethGreene531 I agree. I personally feel they made a very poor decision. They are definitely lucky to be alive. God definitely watched over them.
