Copper does NOT keep slugs out of your garden

I read on a website discussing natural ways to get rid of slugs that they will not cross over copper. I have a bunch of beading wire that is 100% copper so I started making rings around my plants with it. Then I saw a slug. I surrounded it with the copper wire. The slug slimed its way right over the copper wire like idgaf. I stopped putting copper wire around my plants and gathered the rest back. Dont believe everything you read on the internet and copper is not the solution for everything.

maybe they ran an electric current through the wire

@FurryFace it said that the wire causes an an electric current when the slug touches it and so the slug wont go over it

@morrgin Nanoose is correct. I've experimented by trapping slugs inside a ring of 1/2 inch soft copper tube. At first they would rear up and rertreat from it; but eventually they escaped by arching their bodies over, but not touching it. I can imagine a wider 'barricade' such as mesh might defeat them.
