when do you put your garden veggies in the ground?

Rooster · M
Veggies? Naw but I did plant some Chem-Dawg and Garlotti plants in the ground a week or so back.

@Rooster where is here?
Rooster · M
@lilymaesixty1 California
QUINN224 · 31-35, M
About a month ago, here in California. The growing season starts so much earlier than in Indiana where I'm originally from (often didn't plant anything until late May).
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@QUINN224 i thought you could grow all year long there. you should get a big green house
QUINN224 · 31-35, M
@lilymaesixty1 You can, theoretically, though this winter temps dropped down to around freezing enough that it would've ruined most veggies. I can grow things from potentially March through November here though.
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@QUINN224 must be nice
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Around here 3rd weekend in May
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@JimboSaturn interesting, i always plant my stuff a week after everyone,
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@lilymaesixty1 Actually probably a good idea. I have found that plants planted later catch up anyway, and risk frost.
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@JimboSaturn i agree
exexec · 61-69, C
Whenever the Farmer's Almanac says to do it. Otherwise, we always did it around April 1.
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@exexec wow that is early
exexec · 61-69, C
@lilymaesixty1 I live in the South, so we can plant early.

@Carla i feel ya, we might get hail tomorrow
Carla · 61-69, F
@lilymaesixty1 oh, damn!
Heavy hail can be a killer too.
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@Carla i have seen them turn my flowers into shredded wheat
after Mothers day but before Memorial day
Scarfface · 41-45, M
Usually after the last expected frost.
The seed packets usually tell you the best times and expect harvest times too.
I'm sure it varies between different plants but I don't really follow the instructions, I basically just do it as a pass time
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@Scarfface i use to do that but now i just wait until a week after mother's day . i got sick of covering every thing with sheets
Adrift · 56-60, F
I found that my compost pile seems to grow stuff better than the stuff i baby in the garden. So i just threw seeds in the ground during the fall and then wait to see what happens to pop up in the spring.
The fun is figuring out what the hell they are.
lilymaesixty1 · 61-69, F
@Adrift now that is funny...i can't even imagine doing that cause i am so uptight
CreepzillaInManila · 31-35, M
Lily ... Have I told you you're awesome yet?
