The average human knows 2,000 words.
The smarter ones know more, Shakespeare invented 14,000 words for his plays. (Which must have sounded like gobbledygook to his audience) and 6,000 of those we still use today.
But Google says the Oxford dictionary has 171,000 English words.

And this is why non-English speaking peoples hate us. 😅

the thing is, many of the words they claim to have invented were already invented by gen X... they just had entirely different meanings...

"swag" for instance; military slang for "scientific wild ass guess" (similar meaning to "kentucky windage")
