Trees can be killers in high winds!!! NEVER plant them near your house, or build in the woods. A friend of mine lives in a 50+ community, and the area WAS heavily wooded. Tree after tree after tree fell on various homes...and if the tree itself didn't fall on the roof, it was huge branches spearing down and piercing through people's ceilings!
The homeowner's association FINALLY started cutting down some of the worst of the trees two years ago.

Thats why i had my dad cut the tall pines next to our house.. at least it fell away from things..
