I had a similar experience once.
My mother, son, and former daughter in law were all forced to move to a Residential Marriott Inn in Framingham after a fire at my mother's home.
They had FOUR dogs. I was trying to help my mother by walking ONE of her dogs outside on a strip of grass provided for pets, when he saw some animal in the brush and took off running. The leash pulled out of my hand, and I started running after the leash. Next thing I know, I've done a facer on the lawn...in the middle of a PATCH of sand burs.
They were ALL over my legs and knees. I had to DRIVE home, (an hour's drive), with many of the sticker bits still on my knees and legs before I could remove the offending pants and pull all the sticker bits out of my knee area with tweezers.

One time when my daughter was in 1st grade she was walking outside the apartments and fell in a large patch of grass burrs like this. She was wearing a soft fleece jogging outfit and they stuck all over it. She came limping and whining back to the apartment and changed clothes. I tried to pull those burrs out of her outfit (top and bottom) but there were over 100 of them and the barbs stayed stuck in the fabric.Had to throw that outfit away.
