A Patio or a Balcony ? Which one is good

Before I love and plan to make a good balcony in my new home but now my plan to hang in a patio or courtyard
A patio is a place where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the sights of your yard. It’s a place where kids can play, cookouts bring people together, and home decor gets creative. If you’re considering getting a patio, check out these benefits of adding a patio to your home.

A balcony is good if you're living in a high-rise and have a great view.

A patio is good if you're living in a bungalow or single level home with a nice green courtyard/lawn/garden to look out on.

@chilloutab2 Plenty of two-storey (and higher) homes have patios, but some people go far too far and instead of making a small yard overlooking a garden, turn the whole garden into a paved yard, or covered in timber treacherously slippery when wet, perhaps dotted with one or two token, potted plants!

When such homes are sold, the estate-agents use lame phrases like "low-maintenance garden". Be honest: the area is a yard, not a garden.

My parents' near neighbours were like that. They built strange, totally needless extensions to the house then covering most of the garden with a plastic "garden room" surrounded by concrete paving slabs. It may well knock many thousands of pounds off the home's sale value.

I like my deck/patio.
a trimmed bush makes your deck look bigger

Either way a great choice.
I have a patio and 3 decks I use to sit outside and enjoy nature.

@ArishMell Yes, I am lucky.
Enjoy your space !!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Teslin Thankyou! Oh, I do, and because it is compact it does not take too much maintenance!
Teslin · M
@ArishMell Yup, my only issue.
3 + hours to cut the lawn. Longer if I do all the trimming etc.

I'm sure there's no architectural law that says you can't have both a balcony and a patio.😁
@ArtieKat I don't know... The way things are going they might come up with a law that says you can't have either.

I prefer to hang with my dogs in the dog park I
made for them.

Balcony or even better, a terrace. Only accessible from the apartment/house so I'd feel safe to sleep on it. I'd also get more sun.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
They are such different things I can't see how you can really compare them.
