Are you able to look through field and pick out edible plants? What if you get stuck in the woods or a swamp?

Will you perish from lack of knowledge?

I know a few. Acorns, for example, are inedible because of their high tannin content, but if you smash them and then wrap them in a piece of cloth or bag, find a stream or any moving water, and tie them in the water, the next morning all the tannins are gone, and the acorns can be boiled to make a nutty tasting mash.

I know how to find two edible mushrooms for sure...but that only works in the fall where I live. I know that the marines are forced to eat grubs as part of their survival training, and I know how to find grubs.

If I am near a marsh, I know that the roots of cattails are edible, and I know that queen anne's lace roots are actually wild carrots.

I could definitely make it. I grew up in the sticks and know what’s what. I have some knowledge about desert dwelling too. I have a good shot.

Yes I am. Always happy to learn and share with fellow scavengers too. If you have any information.

Thing is...id be concerned about bacteria and getting sick.

im kinda lucky though, i can last days without needing food. Water would be my biggest issue.

I know a few and trying to learn more. I've started with plants in my own yard or close to home. Even flowers I grow have purpose.
I really want to learn how to tell which mushrooms are edible. My ex was able to tell and pick some for cooking.

@SW-User mycology is about the hardest thing for me to learn.

@Notanymore I haven't really tried yet but really should. I'm going too many directions right now.
@Notanymore Mycology is hard in general.
