I'm pretty sure that the astronauts are further away than the nearest land for most of the time.

@ninalanyon The majority of satellites orbiting the Earth do so at altitudes between 160 and 2,000 kilometers.

@pride49 Yes? What's your point? That still puts them further from Point Nemo than Point Nemo is from land most of the time. 160 km altitude means that they are over 12 000 km from the surface at the other side of the Earth (180°). At 90° from Point Nemo they are still over 7 000 km away from it. So most of the time they are further away than the nearest land

@ninalanyon oh ok, I suppose at some point they both are and aren't the closet point from land
