This woman handled this situation with such grace and dignity, imo…

I’m not sure if I would’ve been able to be as polite.
And I can’t imagine what that contractor was thinking. Perhaps he’s been around too many black MAGAs.

Do some Americans actually not know that it's offensive?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@JimboSaturn The problem is that a lot of white southern Americans grew up with this flag and were told it was part of their heritage, long before they were told whose flag it was.
@LordShadowfire Right. It’s not amazing that so many of them aren’t clear on what that ”heritage" encompasses. Nowadays people don’t want it taught about.
@BlueGreenGrey Sometimes we give people too much credit. My guess would be that, while many display it as a gesture of contempt, many others do for the same reason children wear Pokémon clothes.

To try to belong.

I wish more people would take this approach at least. I just learned today that Woody Johnson ( of Johnson & Johnson) has donated millions to the Trump campaign.

Guess what I won't be buying any more? 🤷🏻‍♂

I'm finding anything associated with Trump offensive now.

Same with anything associated with Elon Musk. I'm not on X because of him. I'm not on Tiktok because of China's ownership.

ByteDance was always associated with Oracle which I always avoid. Yes China owns Oracle and is known for its database in the 1990s. It's documentation was written ONLY in Chinese back then.

The list is rather extensive.
@DeWayfarer We seem to be on the same page.

Wow. It is amazing that so many people have come to see that flag as merely a symbol of "being a conservative" (of a certain ilk), and they have completely lost track of what it stood for.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@DrWatson It's worse than that. I have known people who literally just see it as a symbol of "being southern," without having any clue why it's blatantly offensive.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@LordShadowfire I know. And that flag was not even the "flag of state" for the Confederacy. It was very specifically the "battle flag."
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@DrWatson Yeah. I genuinely don't get it. Like, I know what their reasoning is and still cannot understand how they can be that blind.

He knew the flag was offensive. He flew it for that reason. I call B.S. on his text.

She, on the other hand, handled the situation with grace and dignity.
@Ontheroad I’m not sure what he was expecting. Clearly he was hoping to earn some money—deliberately offending the customer wouldn’t have been very smart.

I am humbled. I don’t know if I could’ve handled it half as well.

I was further surprised by the contractor’s text and her answer.
Wow. What a lovely way to fight ignorance. Violence and loud voices wouldn't solve anything. I hope the contractor learned his lesson and fixed his ideas.

Now, you must choose who you want to leave behind that you have seen behind the vail.

She was a lot nicer than he deserved. But good on her for being that calm
She's awesome 💜💜💜👌👌

I remember watching that. Crazy
bookerdana · M
It was the flag of LOSERS and Lost causes until 1948
bookerdana · M
@bijouxbroussard Obvviously I meant from the end of the Civil War till the rise of the Dixiecrats;it isn't even the Confederate flag
@bookerdana Technically it’s the Confederate Battle Flag. Right-wingers like to claim that nobody was offended when Dukes of Hazards’ main characters flew it. But I know at least two black kids from my past who weren’t allowed to watch that show.
