Considering that Trump was elected TO bring things back to normal, you seem to have the wrong idea about what's happening. The rest of the West has been subsidized by American advancement as much as American dollars for decades, in a scheme that made increasingly little sense after the end of the Cold War. Attempts to renegotiate in good faith faltered utterly, and nearly every other First World nation seems bound and determined to dive headfirst into authoritarian nightmare.

Meanwhile, we elected the most liberal Republican president since Nixon, and the most liberal president of any party since Clinton, and the word decries him as a "fascist" (or, in this case, an "ayatollah"). His rhetoric is irresponsibly inflammatory, his egotistical blowhard tendencies border on the psychotic (and I'm not sure from which side of the border), and he has the emotional maturity of a chemically imbalanced toddler- but the simple fact that I can openly say as much online without risking imprisonment says which of us is in a better position.

Bonus points: how much of the EU would "go back to normal" if the UK rejoined? The baseless criticism of that was no less nonsensical- and no more true.

If it keeps up, Canadians and other countries boycott of American products will be part of their new spending habits as well.
