Nationality

Many SW members hiding names and faces to ensure anonymity is understandable. But even nationality? Do they really expect to be traced from the nations population? 😀

I think this is stretching it too far. Others might need to know the location to understand the culture better.

Are we not pushing it too far by hiding nationality for anonymity?
helenS · 36-40, F
I have no problems revealing my nationality. I live in East Slobovonia. 👍
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@helenS can i get a visa please ? 🙏 😀
helenS · 36-40, F
@WandererTony Our immigration policy is very strict. That's mainly because people from West Slobovonia do always try to cross our border.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@helenS But i am not from West Slobovonia! I can show my DNA reports!
Theres no DNA match since humans migrated out of Africa!!
SW-User
Says the person who has chosen to hide his nationality 🙄
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@SW-User Understood. It is coming out as the most common reason. Nations getting branded. This is new knowledge to me, really!!
SW-User
@SW-User English girls a certain way? What way? I have many friends from Birmingham because i worked at Jaguar and Land Rover. I never had any preconceived notion
SW-User
@SW-User yes but you are female…it’s the males where there is an issue. Some nationalities just want to bag themselves a British girl
SW-User
I never hide it when asked in DMs.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@SW-User same, but i had to change in my profile because i posted this. 🤣🤣
Miram · 31-35, F
Just ask in PM

Maybe they don't want you to understand the culture or judge them as part of your understanding of their culture.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Miram Yes someone just said something similar. Some people don't want to be judged by their nationality. Shouldn't be so common, but ok, point taken.
SW-User
@Miram Exactly why i only answer it in DMs. Too many people believe their "superior" media and leaders and have preconceived notions about certain cultures or countries.
Carissimi · F
People should share as much as they are comfortable sharing. However, I have found that when I looked at a profile and saw a nationality, it did help me understand a person’s perspective better in the comments. We may all be human, but we have different cultures which effects individual beliefs and values.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Carissimi sometimes it helps, sometimes not. When someone is speaking about gun control, i would like to know whether they are American. Same with abortion laws.
However when someone is talking about the weather or climate, one can feel curious about whether it is Europe or the States. Opinions on Ukraine is another topic that is better understood when you know what they are fed by the local media.
Even religion is understood differently by different people from different regions. One can avoid hurting sentiments and stepping on toes if one knows.
Just some examples.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
I get paranoid about everything here.

If I post a picture I’m like oh no they’re going to track down where I live from that one daisy
Carissimi · F
I’m sure the powers that be have that technology. @GLITTER
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Carissimi Come on! Not by a daisy!! 😀😀
Carissimi · F
You’d be surprised. @WandererTony
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@SumKindaMunster I really don't remember! Wasn't from my regular contacts. I remember because i found it strange that instead of going blank on country, she lied.

I will surely keep your advice in mind, thanks. 🙂👍
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Be the change you want to see in the world, Tony.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@WandererTony I think people should reveal as much as they feel comfortable with. I've noted some people fake their location, like they say Antarctica or something..I don't care for that either. If you are going to reveal your nationality, be truthful.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@SumKindaMunster yeah I totally agree. The other day i talked to someone about how exotic eastern europe is (was in her profile) and she laughed that she had no idea. It was all a joke to her!
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@WandererTony This wasn't some vaguely European girl, young, attractive, with LOTS of photos showing how beautiful she is, and talking a lot about nudity and sex, was it?

There are some fake catfish accounts like that, be wary about being too sincere or open with them.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
No, we really don't push it too far by hiding the nationality.

I am hiding my nationality since members started zo call me because of my nationality "Nazi."

Others might get insulted because of other things because of their nationality.

No, I really understand that fully when someone wants to hide the nationality...
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Loretta78 Thats painful. Abuse is something you cannot avoid. Even by hiding nationality. Rude people will find an excuse to abuse you anyways.

There are also poor nations which are laughed upon.

I understand your point. So its not really about identity or anonymity, right? Its about being slotted, branded and abused for what you are not!
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@WandererTony You've nailed it.

When there are persons (like you and a few others on SW) whom I know and whom I trust I don't have any problem with telling my nationality.

But to write it on my account to give rude users here a reason to insult me - no way!!
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@Loretta78 Yes, we are here to make our day better. We have enough pain in real lives. No need to collect more here. 🤗
andhony · 46-50
Somebody gonna get a hurt real bad!

Proud to be Indian!
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@andhony Indians love laughing at themselves. But you know there is the right which is ultra sensitive about patriotism 😀
I just don't want all that garbage up there, I'd rather it be clean and not even have follower/view counts displayed. 🤷‍♀️

If someone wants to know me then they'll know.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@MoonlightLullaby You are a lover of nature. And all things nice. Your love is not restricted by borders or cultures or climates. It transcends all barriers.
But all are not like you. What is garbage to you might be fodder for others. View count might be for the narcissist. Followers might be for the those who love to be popular. Sexual orientation is mentioned for those with more carnal inclinations.
Similarly location helps us to ask about distant lands and cultures. Like me, for example. I am from the tropics. Snowfall is something i see only in movies. I have touched it only in the refrigerator. And when i see pictures i want to ask where is this place? You live here? How cold is cold? And i get stonewalled. Someone feels it will disclose their identify and their neighbors will know the adult joke they cracked last week 🙄😀
@WandererTony Not everyone is like me? No way. 😳🤭

I just answered your question truthfully. 😏

View count might be for the narcissist. Followers might be for the those who love to be popular.

Yes, these are my views on those subjects, but I've just never cared about listing all that stuff. If someone asks, it's not like I wouldn't tell them in the US. 😉
helenS · 36-40, F
If an SW member is a citizen of the Vatican City State, he (or maybe even she?? you'll never really know) may have good reasons to hide his (or maybe even her?? you'll never really know) nationality.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@helenS why? There are groups on religion - Christianity. They might like it. They can take DMs for confessions!
When they say they are from the Vatican, debates on religion will have their last say.
😇😇😇food for thought 😋
@helenS As if someone wants to track them down Helen… hahaha 🤪
SW-User
I know it happened with me too. I mean come on do we have no other work but to trace their identity from the millions that live in their nation? 🤣
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@SW-User some do have a reason! It seems some get branded and trolled!!
People are extremely paranoid here. So…
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@NoGamesTolerated hmm... but thats not a good thing, right?
@WandererTony No, not at all. I understand using common sense to be safe but some are so extremely paranoid, I sometimes wonder why they are here.
Carissimi · F
In the current world, you need to be a bit paranoid. @WandererTony
SW-User
Moroccans are like 40 million so 🇲🇦
REMsleep · 41-45, F
I have noticed that hardly anyone shares age or even nationality anymore. Its a little annoying because sometimes that can spark conversion or provide a frame of reference but to each his own.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@REMsleep Precisely. 👍
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
This is a public site and people have the right to choose what is displayed. Some people are not comfortable sharing this info. If I really want to know something I will send a PM bit I can’t think of any reason why I NEED to know this.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@iamonfire696 You wouldn't know about the fears of identity disclosure some people have. You are among the select few who show face without inhibitions. 👍
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@WandererTony oh I only started sharing my face last year. A combination of being told I am ugly in DM and a stalker that took me 2 years to get rid of, I get it.
