Have you met your idol Or just a famous person you admire?

I did, flew from Dublin to London, railed it to Surrey and met john Lydon! It was the most amazing birthday ever! Such a legend of a man
HumanEarth · 56-60, F Best Comment
I don't even know that is, but I did get meet George Burns when he was 99 years old

The legendary comedian George Burns himself. I got shake his hand, have my photograph with him and I got talk to him for like 5 minutes.

This what he looked like when I meet him

This is what he looked like in his prime

Dusty101 · F
@HumanEarth now that's seriously impressive! Wow! 🤗💖
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Thank so very much for the "Best Comment"
Dusty101 · F
@HumanEarth twas bloody legendary! 💚

exexec · 61-69, C
I can't say that I met any of my sports idols, but I dd meet the man I respect extremely highly: Jimmy Carter.
Dusty101 · F
@exexec he did, I liked him also. As a child I lived in the states and my mother loved him!
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@exexec It's safe to say that many people like him. What he does as a human being goes beyond politics.
Dan509 · 26-30, M
I also met president Carter. Went to his church in Plains Georgia and got my picture with him
dubkebab · 51-55, M
He's looking fit ! I was concerned when Nora was going downhill,it really took a toll on him.
It's a testament to his character that one so enshrined in the music biz took his relationship so seriously.
I loved his books as well and didn't want them to end,so I've re-read them slowwwly.

I've met many of my heroes, for better or ill. Spent a good hour chatting with Ari Up,which began icily but had her warming up after a while.Tessa Pollitt was genuinely nice to me.

I upset Linton Kwesi Johnson, which sucked...but had a few laughs with Lee Perry and gave him a nice seashell, which he studied intently.
Dusty101 · F
@dubkebab yeah, some folk deffo tend to do that!
I've listened to the slits and with Nora he's just fab for taking on her 3 grand kids
@dubkebab I have to admit, it was shocking to see him like this:

https://youtu.be/MH0BKSnsPSs?t=16

Also, me growing up having loved the Pistols and PiL (and as you know, Jah Wobble of course), I lost a significant amount of respect for Lydon when he revealed himself to be in the MAGA cult. He is the last person I would've expected to support a straight-up fascist, and I just can't fathom how blind he has become to the fascist turn the world is taking ... that this is the same person who sang "Holidays in the Sun"
Dusty101 · F
@BlueGreenGrey he talked about making England great again! He didn't bring up trump! Tg!
exexec · 61-69, C
I forgot one. My football idol as a young teen was a college player for Georgia Tech. He was an All-American. Move ahead until my senior year in high school and I was on a table, getting taped for a game when the officials walked in. My coach introduced me to them, and one was my idol. I couldn't believe I was shaking the hand of my idol and would be playing in front of him.
Dusty101 · F
@exexec that must have been one special memory. Thanks for sharing! 🤗
A friend and I had dinner with Maya Angelou after a speaking engagement in the 90s.
Dusty101 · F
@bijouxbroussard now that's outstanding! Love this! 😍
@Dusty101 OMG, I just realized that was Johnny Rotten !
How cool ! 😃
Dusty101 · F
@bijouxbroussard yes! Honestly, he seriously was a ledge! He's very misunderstood. But I get him! 😍
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M

Dusty101 · F

blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Dusty101 i work security for concerts as a fun job. I do it enough that if it’s a performer I’m really into. I can request the post I want. I asked to be posted at his tour bus so I could meet him…I’m a huge fan. I not only got to meet him, but he was gracious to have a real conversation with me about music and his early life in Mississippi. The fact that my dad, grew up black in Aberdeen, Mississippi… a few town over from his hometown…and at about the same time….helped break the ice. He was everything I ever imagined….funny, gracious, and genuine.
You look like you're in love lol
Dusty101 · F
@DarlingSelah I think I was in love for the whole night! 💚
Piper · 61-69, F
No, but I've met several people that I'd long admired for some reason. I guess they could be considered idols, in that way.

How very cool, that you got to meet yours on your birthday. 💫
Dusty101 · F
@Piper it was the best birthday ever! May the fourth be with you! 🎉🥳
Piper · 61-69, F
@Dusty101 I got to see Gordon Lightfoot in concert for my birthday, once. It was on a waterfront with boats with lights in view, and a beautiful moon. It was sort of magical and cool.

Omg I bet he has some stories... The Rotten one!
Dusty101 · F

Dusty101 · F

What was the context of the meeting? A book signing?
Were there lots of other people there too?

As far as me meeting idols, I really don't think I have any.
Dusty101 · F
@BlueGreenGrey he was doing an uncensored talking gig! So he was doing a meet and greet first!
And be looked so happy. I've met a few famous people but i don't idolize celebrities.
