Old screw, nails, razors

I have so many screw, nuts , bolts etc.. odds and ends over the years that I can throw out. They are still good but I will never use them.

Shouldn't we able to recycle them or donate them?

I guess there are metal yards.

Thanks this has been bothering me for quite some time.
Here in the US, we have ReStore places associated with Habitat for.Humanity which would take such fasteners, etc., and resell them.

You might have them in larger places (but don't go running to the capital of the NW Territories today...).

@SomeMichGuy I assure you I'm not leaving my part of Canada these days!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@SomeMichGuy I need to do some serious purging. lol
@JimboSaturn I understand. I have a bunch (used some up just recently) and I have to get more out of my parents' house.

Any time I throw stuff like that away I need it the next day...

I did bring a bunch of excess duplicate tools to work and shared them with the younger guys, they took them all!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@fun4us2b Exactly. I have many duplicate tools too because I bought this house with all the contents within. So I inherited all the man's tools (well shitty ones his family didn't take) so I have so many excess gardening tools, and regular tools.

In the States we have "Habitat for Humanity," you can donate all that stuff to them and they sell it cheap to others.

@calicuz Great idea!
@JimboSaturn They are in Ontario too!

@PoetryNEmotion

Awesome, I wasn't sure if they were North of the border. 🙂

Give them to a young just starting out in life
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@MarineBob That's a good idea too.
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@MarineBob unfortunately so many young people have never held a hammer in their life…nor do they want to! 🙄

That sounds like me.

It would be good to find new users for them.

Is there a local "Men's Shed", model-engineering club or similar social craft group whose members might be able to use them?

If they have to go for scrap, all metals are recyclable but it's a matter of what's available for that in your town. Here, our Councils run waste-collection yards to accept bulky household waste not taken by the regular street refuse collection service. They have large skips, one for wood, one for metal, others for cardboard, garden waste, etc. Anything like that local to you?

You could try a scrap-yard but you are unlikely to receive much money unless you have large weights of sorted metals.
RuyLopez · 56-60, M
There should be a metals reclamation site in your county. Might not be worth the time for the trip though.
Carla · 61-69, F
Habitat for humanity likely could use them.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Carla good idea.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I have a bucket of those, too. We have a metal scrapyard locally, and maybe I could toss them in the town's bind for recycling metals.
You never know!….

Good question 🤔
MethDozer · M
What do you think recycling bins and reclaim centers are for?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@MethDozer I think it's jut can and shit, maybe you're right.
MethDozer · M
@JimboSaturn I throw all my used hardware in 5 gallon buckets and take them in when they are full for some extra spending cash.
MethDozer · M
@JimboSaturn i'd check. Every town I ever been in takes any metal for recycling. It's kinda just throwing money away though not taking them to a reclaimer.
