I just read the story behind “stairway to heaven”

I never gave it a chance because it sound like an old dad song . I always heard it on the radio growing up . It always sounded boring to me TBH.. But I kind of related it to it . I thought the more beautiful I could become I could “buy a stairway to heaven” the more money I could have . I could essentially buy my way to heaven . There was another path . A spiritual way. It makes me wonder … and after jimmy pages guitar solo and Robert Plants deep “AND AS WE WIND ON DOWN THE ROAD”! . I was like whoa !!!

An old dad song? I've liked it since I was 15, and my dad (who sadly passed away 20 years ago) didn't like any music like that at all.

It was a good song although I hate it. It didn’t stand up to overplaying and should have remained as an album side ending track which was as the original intent, balancing the pressing and frequency response.

Met Robert in NYC about 20 years ago. Nice dude. Didn't get to ask him about Stairway.

@uncalled4 I’m sure he’s told that story as much as the Bible

@MoonPieSmilez probably!

You should watch the memorial version performed for led Zeppelin at the Franklin centre... It's on you tube and it's great🤗

I remember trying to dance to this at junior high dances. First it starts off slow so you finally get the nerve to ask a girl to dance to it but then it gets faster and you can't decide weather to slow dance fast or fast dance slowly :P

@JimboSaturn plus it's such a long song lol
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@JimboSaturn That is so true!!!!! I remember doing this myself....the end always ruined it. After the song, you asked yourself why she left so fast and rejoined her friends!! LOL

That is one of my favorites ... Its an awesome song from one of the best groups dedicated to rock and roll...
You heard it on the radio because, despite never being released as a single, it was the most-requested song when people phoned radio stations to ask them to play something. That used to be a thing back then.

There's a theory that it's about Galadriel from "Lord of the Rings," but Led Zeppelin has denied this.

Music of that time was much more orchestrated than today's music. Iron Butterfly began a big movement with Inna Gada Da Vida.

It was popular when I was a kid but TBH I never listened to it. I heard it as background noise not something I ever thought about.

I grew up on old Dad music
MoonPieSmilez · 26-30, FVIP

The fact that there is a "Highway to Hell" and only a "Stairway to Heaven" says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers.

Great songs mean whatever they say to you.
