One response to the Beatles' American debut in 1964!

JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
I wonder whatever happened to that group
graphite · 61-69, M
@JohnnyNoir One of the members was at the Super Bowl the other night
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@JohnnyNoir I heard they're now backing up John Olinger in Vegas!
Jimmy2016 · 61-69, M
@graphite 🤔...........To bad he didn't perform for the Half Time show instead of the one guy............
Jemimapuddleduck · 31-35, F
Oh dear - I'm sure Paul Jones got hit in the eye for that one.
Where is Paul McCartney now? Must have got a job as a bus driver.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
Times change but old people never do.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@GlitterEater He sounds like someone today griping about Taylor Swift!
chrisCA · M
@DrWatson Or any contemporary artist.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I've read that many times over the years. When i went to school on February 10, 1964, in 8th grade, i was expelled for having long hair. Not suspended, expelled. My hair looked exactly as it had the previous Friday, very much like JFK's, kinda down on my forehead. The Beatles really scared a lot of adults.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@hunkalove Right after the broadcast the following Monday the nuns told the males that forehead hair would not be tolerated.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
This column did not age well
Straylight · 31-35, F
Sounds like an SW rant. 😂
@Straylight indeed ... just saw another Paul Jones on here complaining about 90s music a few days ago
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Interesting to read McCartneys comments recently on touring the U.S. back then.

A disinterested media and confrontational news reporters.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 The Beatles used to make fun of the reporters in US interviews: "Are you guys just a bunch of British Elvis's" Ringo struts around moving his hips like Elvis and says "It's not true, it's not true!" George was asked what he called his haircut and answered, "Arthur." When asked what recommendations the Beatles had for America, Paul said, "Buy more Beatles records."
graphite · 61-69, M
FWIW, George Harrison once tore into groups like U2 and Spice Girls while saying the Beatles would last forever. He's been right so far.
Ontheroad · M
Yeah, old white guys... wrong then and wrong today.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Rock n' Roll as a "fad", is this guy my grandfather?
graphite · 61-69, M
The only column this guy ever wrote that is long-lasting. Talk about being totally wrong. He's not the only one who viewed the Beatles (incorrectly) as long-haired no-talents.
Carla · 61-69, F
And who is this paul jones?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Carla I sure don't remember him! lol
Carla · 61-69, F
@DrWatson yeah...me either.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Carla I guess you and I have been wasting our time too, being distracted by 'deteriorating' entertainment.
RenFur · 70-79, M
This is priceless! He must've been from the deep South. Oblivious to the changing world...
Gotta love the hair reference to Moe Howard. What an idiot.
Lilymoon · F
That's hilarious. Good on Ed Sullivan
RedBaron · M
That certainly aged well! 🤣
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
The man had a true insight into popular culture, didn't he? LOL But, what can I say -- I preferred The Stones and The Dave Clark Five.
I'm forever saddened that the world lost rock 'n' roll when Elvis joined the Army, and the airwaves and these newfangled so-called Enter Net streams have only been filled with polka ever since
@BlueGreenGrey People like that complained about "Elvis The Pelvis", too.
