Are you too old to listen to new music?

What I mean - your favorite music was from years ago (and always will be)?

My fav music is from seventies and eighties

I do like a bit of the top 40 music I hear on the radio today and I also really like Pierce the Veil and similar bands that my kids listen to. Great in concert.

My favorite would be rock and roll from the late 60’s to early 80’s. I’m pretty versatile though. I’m fine with Vivaldi to Eminem and most things in between. Country’s a bit of a rough listen for me though. That’d be one exception.
Occasionally I’ll hear something current that I find catchy.

Athough my favorites are from different periods in the life I’ve already lived, (and earlier) my mind isn’t completely closed to experiencing new music and enjoying it.
@bijouxbroussard

Well expressed.

Nah. I'm almost 50 I been to a Joywave concert recently. Now mostly 90s and early 2000s will always be my favorite though
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No, I desperately need something new to me. It could be new music or old music I never heard before or couldn't appreciate before but currently I don't find anything I listened to in past interesting enough.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
I spent 8 years listening only to rare 78 rpm recordings during the mid 1980s/early 90s. There are a few more recent independent artists I listen to, my students.
@TheShanachie

Ever play one of those thick 78s which had only one side grooved? I remember seeing some when I was a kid visiting a bachelor uncle's rented farmhouse decades ago.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
@rinkydinkydoink yes!! They are very old and fragile.
@TheShanachie

I remember at least one record was by Sousa - apparently he was a big recording star at the time. Something like this no doubt:

I actively seek out new music. I have lots of older stuff from my younger days, but I'm always looking for new stuff.
HumanEarth · F
No, I listen music that's 60, 80 and even over 100 years older then me

And I also listen to music that todays kids are listening to
@HumanEarth

I'm with you - totally - with your first sentence.

I don't like much of anything that's new. I started to watch Anora this morning only to stop 10 minutes in.
HumanEarth · F
I got grandkids that want me to dance with them. I have to adapt to bond with them
calicuz · 56-60, M
I like some new music, but with AI generating some of the new songs, not a lot is good out there. I do still listen to all of my old 80s tunes.
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
No. I find new, new music, and new, old music that I like.
@OverTheHill

I guess if you've never heard certain older music but get a chance to, that's "new" music.

Another commenter mentioned a college radio station he listens to (WFIT) so I am now editing my favorite sites page to include some radio stations (starting with WFIT). I will now look for specialty stations that feature what I really love - Big Band music from the 30s and 40s. There has to be music from that era that'll be new to me :D
matureaura · 41-45, F
SW stores incoming messages from other users that aren't your friend in the ''Requests'' folder under messaging.
@matureaura

I checked - there's nothing there.
matureaura · 41-45, F
@rinkydinkydoink Sent over an hour ago.
@matureaura

Now I see it - it was way down in the bottom of the page under "Other Messages".
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
I like new music if it sounds good.
melbeacher · 61-69, M
I listen to a local college radio station, WFIT, and they play everything
@melbeacher

I was just thinking about this - where can I listen to new music. I now have your station playing in the background.

Hell no. I love finding new music.
@DearAmbellina2113

Just a guess - you like people and they like you. You speak your mind. You're not one to be complacent about anything.
My favorite music was written well before I was born...
