Star Spangled Banner (live at Woodstock) - not a Hendrix song but how can it be left out?
The entire Band of Gypsies album - especially Machine Gun
Voodoo Chile
Purple Haze
Hey Joe
Ezy Ryder
Castles Made Of Sand
Manic Depression
Red House
1983....(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)
All Along The Watchtower - not a Hendrix song but better than the original
Crosstown Traffic

The Wind Cries Mary
Hey Joe

So many of his own but this cover always blows me away as it did the original artist. He was uncomfortable doing it at first.

@PatKirby I was a Doors fan and read a lot about Morrison. Which lead me to read about the trio death. Hendrix and Janis. I disliked Janis because she left Big Brother and the Holding Company who put her on the map. I vaguely remembered the Jimi Army details because of you mentioning that.

@PatKirby In uniform with the guitar so cool. I wonder what he was playing then. I see a drummer next to him in the upper left.

Tough question. I think I’d go to The Band of Gypsies and pick almost any song. Then….you hear his version of Mannish Boy and you realize it’s impossible to pick a favorite
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
@carpediem Band of Gypsies was Hendrix at his best on guitar in my opinion. It was his best band. Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock and Machine Gun came from them.

@AmericanAvenger Agreed. Loved Buddy Miles.

Jimi's Hey Joe...

...and of course Voodoo Chile. Grew up rockin' to it, but also give credit to Stevie Ray Vaughn's cover as well...

@PatKirby Stevie could cover Jimi better than anyone. An incredible talent just getting the publics attention gone far too soon.
PatKirby · M
@Gibbon

Exactly! Robin Trower's stuff was ok but Stevie covered Jimi best I think. Jimi and Stevie were masters and no doubt you could feel the passion in their music. Tragic they were taken from us so young.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@PatKirby Yes. Stevie in a tragic accident. But Jimi left us sadly because of his drug obsession.

Wind cries Mary.

But to be honest Hendrix didn't really have any songs that were all that great. His songs aren't what was great, it was his guitar playing and prowess. The songs themselves were fairly mediocre but his guitar style was amazing
@MethDozer I’m always pay attention to the playing rather than the lyrics. Hendrix couldn’t read music.
MethDozer · M
@BlueSkyKing See what I'm saying now?
AmericanAvenger · 56-60, M
@BlueSkyKing OK that your limitation. That Hendrix couldn't read music is a testament to his genius. James Brown and Prince did not read either.
