The original version of "Unchained Melody" was sung in 1955 by Todd Duncan for the movie. Just think how many better covers have been made since then.

@supersnipe I used to live next door to a guy who collects old vinyl singles and he had several versions of "Unchained Melody" including the Righteous Brothers version, and I think he mentioned Les Baxter and Al Hibbler, plus a guy called Jimmy something (Jimmy Young, I think it was).

@Crazychick Yes it was. He (Jimmy Young) got to No.1 with it in 1955 and it was one of several UK hits for him in the mid-1950s. He went on to be a disc jockey, presenting on the BBC for several decades.
