I'm around them a lot and they absolutely fascinate me. They have about a dozen vocalizations and if you learn some you get an idea of what they're 'saying.' What's super cool to me is when you hear what sounds like a big pack going off it's just usually just a few of them. They change their vocalizations quickly to make it sound like there's more of them than there are. I love watching them in the forest and they pose zero threat. They also can't be culled because the females can control their litter size. Beautiful and amazing animals.

@mooncrest02 HA. Shit. I've been away for a while. It's MOUNT Pinos. It's in the Los Padres NF. I interchanged them. Sorry about that. :)
Unless you dig snow hiking and have spikes, I would imagine there's still a good amount of snow/slush. Probably need a few weeks before it's clear.

It's a little wider in spots but it's a super nice hike up to the summit. Leaves from the big parking lot at the end of the road. Safe,mellow climbing, probably short of two miles, with some sweet views and cool terrain at the top. It's close to 9K so you'll breath a little harder but it's nothing crazy. A trail also starts from the summit and you drop in to the forest.
And just to toss out there, I've never seen anything remotely sketchy. Good vibe up there. The power of pine. 馃
