@SW-User Thankyou for those - I'd no idea there is one commercial calliope builder still! That is really rather wonderful.
I tried to watch the video directly, and that does sometimes work.
That was unexpected too: Stoddard intending to use calliopes in place of church bells. I wonder what inspired him to think that?
I don't know the American church bell tradition but in Britain, more particularly England, it is change-ringing and each bell is sounded by manually rotating it by rope and pulley. The church has to have a minimum of 4 or 5 tuned bells for this to work, with one ringer per bell.
While Continental ringers use either melody-ringing by a keyboard-like instrument called a Carillon with a solo player; or - I was told by a bell-ringer - merely, joyfully random clanging!
Either way - change or melody - could work with a mechanical system but I suppose the problem with his proposal is the need to have someone operate a boiler, with the extra expense and work involved, just for the instrument. Though it might also have helped heat the building. The river-boats were steam-powered anyway of course, so had steam to spare for the calliope.
I know the player-piano - my brother has one!

A very wide range-
- Most genres in the Early via Classical to the Modern and Contemporary (now) eras with perhaps Romantic - Modern my favourite. Not so much opera but I enjoy some.
- 1960s pop and 60s-70s rock (the years of my 'yoof'!),
- Rhythm-and-Blues (the proper stuff, not supermarket "R&B"),
- Some jazz, folk, brass-band music, organ music...
What don't I like?
Present-day pop (formulaic and lacking initiative and individuality, let alone ability), rap and similar, the more outrageously avant-garde, the American Swing and Crooner works, most Be-bop jazz.

It's random. Metal (in general, I don't worry too much about the subgenre) is my favorite, but sometimes country is the only thing that'll scratch the itch. Or 80s bubblegum pop. Or classical. So on so forth.
Sometimes, not often, but sometimes....I like the idea of Death Metal covers played on hurdy-gurdy.

What's funny is that some people associate hip hop with violence and sexism. Nevermind the fact that there are a lot of positive conscious rappers out there and have been for years. But the rich White music execs don't push it. They push negativity just like they do in movies and other genres of music. But I listen to all types of music. I do not discriminate .☺️

I tend to prefer old school rap to the newer stuff.
I listen to artists from most genres, but my two favorites are classical and jazz.
