I've just read an interview with Grace Slick, lead vocalist (now retired) who said that she was pressured into singing it because it was a sure-fire hit and that they never wrote it.
The lyrics, by Bernie Taupin (of Elton John fame no less) are about the decline of Los Angeles and all the music clubs that were closing at the time.
So...there you go...
Not really my style of music, but I quite like it...
😘

Rock and roll has never been the inspiration for building a city. Maybe the town of Bedrock. It's a page right out of history.

It was a hit so lots of people agree with you.
Not my cup of tea, though.

Okay but overplayed. No Way Out was better and Jefferson Starship was better in general. Your mileage may be better. 😎

Cause that’s when Jefferson Airplane, aka Jefferson Starship, turned to the dark side mainstream

It's disliked?
I guess it could be one of the more cheesey 80's songs.
I love it, it's pure 80's.

Cheesy and silly, but nowhere as bad as many make it out to be. If I hear it somewhere, I think of 1985, when everyone was partying and having a great time. Is it Hey Jude? No, but fairly innocuous. Maybe I'll switch to something else
Put on something like My Humps or anything by Hootie, and I want to kill another human being.
