Name a great older (before 1990?) musical group you recommend. Thanks.

AnneHoney · 36-40, F
Almost all great music groups were before 1990, even 1980. The groups my parents played in our home were so much better than the crap my friends listened to.
@AnneHoney sometimes spend hrs in the library listening to Alan's collection of oldies
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
@saragoodtimes I still listen to oldies radio stations.
Uncfred · 61-69, M
@AnneHoney Perhaps you were born too late, the sixties and seventies were special. But having said that, there is some good stuff every so often even now.

@OldBrit Neil Peart, Phil Collins, Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer and Bill Bruford are/were fantastic drummers
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@OldBrit Wow. We listened to much the same stuff. Remember the thud in my chest of the bass drum from Supertramp when they did the Crime of the Century tour in Melbourne.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@Abstraction saw them on the tour after that at Hammersmith for first time. Last time in London on the 40th anniversary before Rick got ill
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Genesis, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull.

The Yes Album
Fragile
Close To The Edge
Going For The One
I do like all of their stuff up to 1994 (Talk) and after that they kind went over the edge, off the cliff and down into the valley 😆
Very good albums. With Tales I can take side 1 and side 4 and you’d have a solid album. Anderson has admitted he became over ambitious with that album. The band was not firing on all cylinders and Wakeman was distracted with a solo project. No surprise really. After all of the energy and talent they exerted in Close To The Edge they were probably a tad burned out. I have Yessongs and have listened to it many times but I am more a fan of Yesshows. Ritual really comes alive on that live album for me. Great to meet another fan. Have you ever watched reaction videos of people listening to Yes for the first time? Love those. Especially when Millennials get their first taste and are rendered slack jawed with amazement. It’s kinda like hearing it for yourself for the first time all over again. @Abstraction
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@stratosranger Awaken is the high art of rock. Stunning song.
Agreed! So so agreed! It was the last time Anderson and Howe wrote together. Not sure what happened, but would guess it was the usual rock star clash of egos. But at least their magnum opus was created and completed before that happened. @Abstraction

My favourites are Genesis and Marillion.
In fact I saw Genesis last week and in their 70s they can still play, with the exception of Phil Collins.

Simon & Garfunkel and Cat Stevens were excellent too.

@IM5688 Before they gave Mark Farner the boot.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@TheSentinel Absolutely!
Mark Farner was the driving force of GFR and a great lead singer and showman.
And we can all thank Don Brewer for the break-up of one terrific band that could still be making music on a GFR scale today.
@IM5688 100% agree

This is how you do it...

It’s going to be tough based on the info given. Are you into guitar or the blues, perhaps you like girl singers? Help me out and I will help you. I love music so it will be worth your time.

@gdon39 what do you enjoy? Like...top 5 that comes to mind 😄
gdon39 · 41-45, M
@Alisha233 Rolling Stones, credence Clearwater Revival, Black Crowes, cream, Jimi Hendrix, Willse Nelson, Waylon Jennings. That’s some of my favorites. But on short time that is pretty good.

@TheSirfurryanimalWales Focus: I used to work out the guitar lines from Jan Akkerman - loved playing Hocus Pocus on my guitar, but our singer wasn't ever going to attempt that yodel. I still play Le Clochard as a classical guitar piece now and then when I pick up my nylon string.
@Abstraction Thjiss van Leer still tours playing Focus tunes with a group he dares to call Focus.
And keeps coming up with new Albums.Occasionally there is a good track.
My parents hated Hamburger Concert......no idea why!
And we had a cool music teacher who used to play us Focus tunes😀
