What’s a cover of a song that’s better than the original?

Personally I think Nirvana’s version of The Man Who Sold the World is better than Bowie’s.

@BlueMetalChick Is that the drawing you posted on here before? If so, it's really good.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User Yep, it sure is.

Have I ever shown you my entire wall?
SW-User
@BlueMetalChick I don't think so but I'd love to see it

I might disagree on that particular song but with “Hurt” I like Johnny Cash more than the NiN original.
Also I like this version of a KISS original by the Replacements.

@Pfuzylogic Loved this. Reminds me of Joe Cocker.

@Grateful4you
Replacements were very much an 80s band known for their covers but they put out two huge albums, “Tim” and “Let it be”.

@CestManan Absolutely agreed! I love Bauhaus
CestManan · 46-50, F
@theworld Only song of theirs I am familiar with, I heard it on one of our local stations.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Oh, I don't know who originally sang "Whiskey in the Jar" but I think the Grateful Dead did the best version of it.
Pfuzylogic · M
@BlueMetalChick
It was originally an Irish Ballad before Thin Lizzy did the original rock version.
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
@BlueMetalChick the lyrics also go a bit different depending on region, but the story is the same. My favourite version is the Thin Lizzy version.
@BlueMetalChick I loved Peter, Paul and Mary's 60s rendition of it.

@nedkelly I disagree. I liked the original way better BUT, They did do their best work in that time Rick Springfield was with them//
Disturbed. "Sound of silence"
Jimi Hendrix’ cover of Bob Dylan’s All Along The Watchtower.

@bijouxbroussard Legendary. I'm grateful to have been one of the "Experienced" one's indeed.

Trying to remember his name...David something, you would know. The updated "Sound of Silence" a masterpiece.
hurt.? actually most of cash's covers, several mad world covers, the acoustic cover of the middle, wild horses from the sundays... rusty cage by cash again... prines clay pigeons... so many.
@dirge oh.. and all of the motorhead undercover album.
WickedChild · 26-30, F

I didn’t know it at the time but Ian’s voice is almost impossible to replicate.

@Pfuzylogic yes it's very unique

I think the best voices to try have been David Gahan and Iggy Pop but even those rich voices don’t match his voice. Having said that NiN did a beautiful work there!
SarahAndSamantha · 51-55, T
Cyndi Lauper's version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, much better than the original by....I forget his name.

Also, metal blasphemy, I know, but I prefer this version of Dead Skin Mask to Slayer's. It's just creepier sounding and if you're doing a song about Ed Gein, it should be creepy

Running Up that Hill by Placebo is better than Kate Bush.

I like Juice Newton's rendition of "Angel Of The Morning" better that the original, done by Merrilee Rush. But it was close.

You decide.

And blew me away

I have a couple I prefer to the originals.

@AntisocialTroll 1- Great cover and a great tribute but I don't think anyone compares to dolores o'riordan. It also had a very specific relevance to the time and place.

2-Love Skald and I find this cover kind of hilarious. lol
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I love both the original Zombie and this one pretty equally. As for Skald, I'd never even bother to listen to the original as this version is soooo good.
@AntisocialTroll Definitely.

And I was never really a huge White Stripes fan.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I think Deschanel's "Sugar Town" was amazing!

Wicked Game acoustic version by Stone Sour
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
That whole show was lightning in a bottle. Ominous and dark and reflected Kurt's mindset. If only we knew what was coming...
theworld · 22-25, F
@uncalled4 honestly :(
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@theworld I heard little things that led up to it, like some drug issues....THAT was what I thought might take him out. :(
basilfawlty89 · 36-40, M
I love Queen, but the Metallica cover of Stone Cold Crazy is better:
