Anyone else miss Limewire?

BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
I miss Limewire but I don't miss needing Limewire. Like, it was a fun era, but it's super easy to get free music now.
SW-User
No, because by that time I had a job and could pay for stuff.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User Ok see now that I understand. If it's music from an upcoming band or something, I'll absolutely buy their music to support them.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SW-User Being able to hear compression artifacts sounds like just the worst curse. Shitty mp3s sound pretty okay to me and I am delighted to be limited in that way :D
SW-User
@CountScrofula don't get me started on my decades-long war for sound quality 😭 Dust sparkles on records, cassettes that never played at the right speed (or worse, got subtly faster and slower), aliasing on early CD players, compression artifacts, RF leaks, it goes on and on.

@BlueMetalChick Yeah, to me this is the new model that has the potential to save the music industry. The democratization of production and distribution that's happened recently is the biggest change in music in my life, and I'm so glad to see the monopoly of the old dinosaurs slowly crumbling and blowing away in the wind.

Sousa hated the phonograph because he correctly predicted the rise of the recording industry and the withering of musical talent that went with it.

Hell no it gave me so many viruses that made me toss my pc out of a two story window.

No, because by that time I gave handjobs and could pay for stuff.

I don't miss all the viruses
😯 virus central... sure 😂
@BlueMetalChick Exactly! And my computer caught a few unwanted things 😂
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Snowvixen I had a second computer specifically for pirating and torrenting. It was super cheap and had shitty graphics but a huge hard drive so I could let it get virus'd up without worrying.
@BlueMetalChick I only had one computer so when it crapped out I was screwed, had to fix it more than a few times. 😂
ArtieKat · M
That brings back memories!
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@ArtieKat When I was in 8th grade we had a presentation from the illinois Sheriff's Department against underage drinking and the deputy who did the PowerPoint slideshow had Limewire on her desktop 😂😂😂
ArtieKat · M
@BlueMetalChick I've got about 7000 tracks on my computer - at least half of them came via Limewire
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
I used Aries. Now no reason to download. Just stream anything. Plus my isp emailed me a worning twice years ago. So no more downloading lol
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Jonjdw "Plus I'm older than you and I don't care."
So you don't care that you COULD get a much larger selection of music in better audio quality and for free. You COULD use a better product. You just don't want to because...you're old? So old people don't care about the quality of the product they use.

And even if you have unlimited data, you're consuming RAM on your device, and you require an internet connection. Which means you're unable to listen to music through streaming in places where you don't have a strong signal, for example, in the subway tunnel, or when you're on an airplane. And because your RAM is being eaten up, your other apps and sites are gonna run slower while you stream.
Jonjdw · 46-50, M
@BlueMetalChick I don’t stream that much anyway. I don’t use subway never been on a plane. Don’t use many apps and I close them all out anyway. I think me and you are very different. I have not streamed music In weeks. And when I do it’s like one or two songs. My kids stream they use most of the u limited data.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Jonjdw Wow, you've never rode in an airplane before? That's unexpected.
Zelllambert · 31-35, F
The same virus over and over.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I miss a lot about the early 00s internet but I can't say that Napster, Limewire, Frostwire, or any of those kind of open file sharing systems were particularly great ways to get content.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@CountScrofula True, they were the best of a bad situation. But that was kind of the fun of it, the fact that everyone wanted the same thing and certain companies managed to provide it in a way that made everyone feel more connected with each other because we all knew what it was and we all used it. Even though it was chock full of malware and bundling...
OMG i use to get soooo many songs on this thing ahahha
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Elizabeth28 @BlueMetalChick And all the songs were written by Weird Al.
SW-User
oh yeah! forgot about that. 😀
nem16 · 36-40, M
@SW-User I blew 300 quid fixing it,it but considering how much music I acquired over the years..most of which I still have from one usb drive to another.
SW-User
@nem16 I lost all mine.. Ack
nem16 · 36-40, M
@SW-User That's why I had an external HDD aswell. :)
Hahahah I remember using Kazaa limewire and Napster omg!

My old high school days when I couldn't afford music 😅
ArtieKat · M
Kazaa was another site I used.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
Hahaha!

Wow.

Good times.
No it’s a lot easier to download music now. I hated dealing with that mess.
DDonde · 31-35, M
