Do you ever watch a movie or a TV show just to pick out the ridiculousness of certain situations?

I've only recently discovered Lost In Space (from the mid-1960s) and was wondering how this show ever got on the air.

Haha yeah the show's utterly ridiculous but everyone loved a bit of campy Lost in Space as a kid, LOLZ😄

@rinkydinkydoink Hehe yeah I watched it a lot growing up. I did watch the newer series' of it they made quite recently as well.

Although it's not really connected in anyway to the original series. Other than having a family of Robinson's in outta space that's about the only similarities it had really.

I think you hit the nail on the head - its charm came from the fact the whole premise was nonsensical so boring stuff like logic would only ruin the fun.

@rinkydinkydoink Oh yeah I totally agree it's just wacky fun. Like the original Star Trek series went for the more serious approach when it came to what the future might really look like. So then it sometimes suffers from looking a little dated when it comes to the social and scientific ideas it had going down...

While Lost in Space doesn't suffer any of them problems as it's just fantasy adventure never attempts to explain anything on a technical level or take itself serious...

Although the first few episodes were pretty serious. Like Smith sabotaging the mission and all the social backdrop has a very paranoid cold war type of vibe going on but yeah that particular style it didn't last very long.

Oh good Lord was that show horrid. Styrofoam blocks put in to be giant boulders

Except for Dr Smith and the robot every character was useless. To say the very least

It's on tonight (11 I think) on me-tv if you are a masochist
@Thrust

Reputable actors guest-starred, too. Warren Oates, Michael Rennie and Mecedes McCambridge to name a few. Did they need a paycheck that badly?

@rinkydinkydoink prolly more that Irwin Allen was a feature producer (Earthquake (in sensurround) The Towering Inferno) and they wanted to get their foot in the door for some bad 70's flicks)

I think he might have done the Airport flicks too
@Thrust

That must be it.

As ridiculous as it was it was it has gained quite a following some years later. But I know what you mean. It was cancelled after it's first season.
