Probably down to the Greeks or Romans who saw their stillness and contemplative stare as being all seeing yet not impulsive in their actions

Because they have marketed themselves that way, with their cleverly designed bags of potato chips.

@DrWatson To clarify, this action has not been performed by the owls of Earth, but rather the owl people of Plentimenus 7. They have secretly worked behind the scenes for centuries to influence human perception of owls. To what end, I do not know.

Because they are very wise

@GuyWithOpinions They don’t build their own nests. They steal the nests of other large birds and take them over. There is a group of ravens here that were surrounding an owl on a power line trying to chase it out of the neighborhood. It had probably tried to steal one their nests is why.

@GuyWithOpinions they tame down pretty good too. I don’t know if you would have to get one when it was young or rescue an injured one. But I’ve seen videos, a lot from Japan, and some in the USA of people who have owls and they are very sweet & friendly to the people who have them. Of course I think these birds should live out in the wild and catch vermin, which is good for the environment and benefits us too.
