War and Peace & The Dark Tower
There's not many now that I would spend 50 plus Canadian dollars on, but this is one of the few I would get, because this would look so fantastic the bigger the screen is, a mammoth 4 parter that showed that Russia could make em just as good as Hollywood. I will see if I can enjoy it over the next few days, a casual journey it'll be. I've never finished the book yet, but I hope to get around to it, one thing I like about it is that the chapters aren't too long.
Directed by Sergei Bondarchuk • 1966 • Soviet Union
The Dark Tower, the whole epic fantasy series by Stephen King will be accompanying this marvelous Russian classic, it's disproportionate in size comparison, but I shall still treat them according to the time needed to treat equally, meaning much more real life time in this reading, which is being done on the iPhone I get to use nowadays, have it on scroll, so it's like continuously going down, down DOWN into the story, of leaving this world behind, going into the story.
But also not going cold turkey on SW, because when I do that my specificity fizzes out too quickly, a 2 sided thing falls flat when a Trinity holds up.
For each time the iPhone needs recharging, i'll tend to the film, that is the technique of this wondrous time spent in covering the totality of 2 distinct works with very little time on anything else. I know i've recently spoken of things i had then been spending time with, but those things will be used very sparingly now, if at all. I am placing these 2 works to fill in the cracks like a disinfectant fluid making the wound of consciousness clean. Those other things may by this analogy be called the ointment and so on.
If i'm active here on SW too much, my DT and W&P journeys will be less dynamic, it's to be a constant tug of war!! Who shall win, stay tuned to find out!!

At the height of the Cold War, the Soviet film industry set out to prove it could outdo Hollywood with a production that would dazzle the world: a titanic, awe-inspiring adaptation of Tolstoy’s classic tome in which the fates of three souls—the blundering, good-hearted Pierre; the heroically tragic Prince Andrei; and the radiant, tempestuous Natasha—collide amid the tumult of the Napoleonic Wars. Employing a cast of thousands and an array of innovative camera techniques, director Sergei Bondarchuk conjures a sweeping vision of grand balls that glitter with rococo beauty and breathtaking battles that overwhelm with their expressionistic power. As a statement of Soviet cinema’s might, WAR AND PEACE succeeded wildly, garnering the Academy Award for best foreign-language film and setting a new standard for epic moviemaking.
