I didn't know my parents were familiar with Akira Kurosawa's films 😄

I became a recent but huge fan of Kurosawa this year and have already watched most of his movies. I was chatting with my parents recently and brought up how I've been real into his films, thinking they wouldn't be familiar since they're not really into foreign films, especially when they're all in subtitles. But much to my surprise, they actually knew quite a bit about him! Knew how some popular westerns were remakes of Kurosawa films and were even familiar with the "Rashomon effect" trope (though they hadn't seen Rashomon). My mom was telling me how when her and my dad were still dating in the '80s, he made her watch Kurosawa's 1985 film Ran with him and how she was totally not into it after learning it was all subtitled, but after sitting down and watching it, she thought it was good. I'd love to show my parents some Kurosawa flicks they haven't seen yet, but I doubt I could get them to watch. Especially with my dad, who sadly is experiencing dyslexia as he gets older. It was nice to know they knew about Akira Kurosawa and even seen a couple of his films anyway.
