An 8 film series by Kinji Fukusaku

Battles Without Honour and Humanity (5 films) & New Battles Without Honour and Humanity (3 films)

A couple years ago I got these straight from Arrow, not fine film art by any means but I want something like this, if I just watch these, the total of my Asian film festival will come to 11, my math is bad!!

There's similar films of his I have from the 70s like Street Mobster, Cops vs Thugs, and Doberman Cop. Japanese cinema doesn't only boast of the finest in cinema but also great genre flicks that helped inspire popular American filmmakers like Tarantino, this is a side project and shouldn't be jumbled along with folks like Ozu, when the first Battles film was screened major Japanese critics like Donald Ritchie walked out, so let down they were by it.

This was Mr. Fukusaku's answer to the Godfather films, and for me, i'd be happy with this and not Coppola's magnificent first 2 films.
