What a special time

Playing one of the most crucial segments in all of my film watching life, dad is taking it very well, in that scene between Reinhold and Mieze he said "I don't like him" about 10 times, that is the right thing to say, Reinhold is the angel of death, with an anvil tattoo on his chest, now we're into the 13th episode in the relatively dull criminal organization segment, but the kicker is the end where Franz's only option left is a Nietzschean kind of laughter, I love Rainer's voice over narration of those doomy apocalyptic words.

Fassbinder was a fascinating guy, and not indeed good in many respects, but man oh man he had the tragic touch, and he rarely got more tragic than in his magnum opus here. The epilogue kicks ass though, I love how it just gets all surreal tableaux on you.

There was a time I put Heimat 2 by Reitz above this, but that's wrong of me, in Berlin Alexanderplatz every second of it is like a beautiful painting, Reitz's epic wasn't like that.
