In hollywood comedies it seems to be. So many characters are written to be dumb including but not limited to Penny from Big Bang Theory, Woody in Cheers, Chrissy on 3's company and 2 of the 6 characters on Friends. and others. I don't like those characters. I think they are written as too 2-diminsional but someone somewhere doing market research seems to feel their is an appeal to it.
