I found something interesting and very moving…This cartoon appeared in Harper’s Weekly magazine on April 22, 1865, depicting two Union soldiers after the end of the Civil War. It was rather controversial at the time. Sadly, it might still cause comment even now in some circles. (1)
Our immigration issues are hardly a new phenomenon…These are from the 1800s, with the Irish and Italians but especially the Chinese as popular targets (leading to the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, which wasn’t repealed until 1943). (6)
