I finally watched the two new Mortal Kombat movies

I’m glad I waited until Mortal Kombat II came out so I would watch them both consecutively. I’m not sure I was would have been as enthusiastic about it if all I had was the first one to go on. I enjoyed the 2021 Mortal Kombat film but I definitely have my criticisms about it. One being them killing off Kung Lao so early and the biggest one being the original character Cole. Not that he was a bad character but no MK fan is watching the movie to see some rando OC to steal the spotlight from the characters we actually know and love. But it seems the filmmakers listened to the complaints and realized their mistake, as Cole is demoted to side character in the sequel and unceremoniously killed off in the first act. Kung Lao is also resurrected as an evil revenant and killed again but with the implication that they’re going to find a way to bring him back as a good guy. That’s two big criticisms from the first that were corrected in the second, which is definitely a much better film. And it left interested in seeing the third film when it comes out.

Overall, the two new Mortal Kombat films ultimately delivered and I can say I enjoyed watching them consecutively. But again, I’m glad I waited for the second one to be released before watching them.
