@Ohplease47 Eric Stoltz. He shot quite a few scenes, but he viewed the script, not as a comedy, but in a more serious light where the character of Marty is thrust back in time to live a life that's not his own in 50s America. The director realised that Stoltz was approaching the part in a completely opposite manner to the one necessary to emphasise the comedy. So Stoltz was fired and all his scenes re-shot when Fox became available from a television contract.

@Richard65 how could he have so missed the point though???? Every bit of this amazing flick...was so funny..including the title, and the other characters, and the premise...😳

@Ohplease47 I know! I guess Stoltz just possesses a different psychology. Where most people see comedy, he perceives tragedy. It's perhaps just his nature. But he clearly misread that part profoundly! It's his loss and our gain. Fox IS Marty. Nobody else could ever play it better.
