The most important thing in rating a movie to me is the acting. Second is story telling. The least important is a message. I can usually get a message in a paragraph or two.

1. The Godfather..great acting across the entire cast.

2. Inglorious Bastards..Christopher Waltz delivered one of the most underrated performances of all time.

4. The Ten Commandments..'56 version. There is not a religious bone in my body. But I'm always intrigued by the over the top acting style. The director displayed real genius making this movie.

Tomorrow I may have a different three at the top.

Absolutely. All of the Paramount executives wanted to reject Al Pacino as Michael in The Godfather. Francis Ford Coppola thought he was right for the part and fought furiously to keep him. I can't imagine anyone could have played the part better.

I guess a lot of luck might figure in casting. Some role casting should have been obvious though. Think Kevin Costner in Robin Hood. A terrible fit that should have been obvious. Or LOL, John Wayne as Genghis Kahn.
