Are daytime soaps a thing of the past?

Is this the end of the soap opera genre?

In these Days of Our Lives, daytime dramas just don’t grip broadcast TV executives like they used to. Last week, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming announced that the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives would be moving to Peacock after nearly 67 years on NBC.

They’re still around, just from a different country and in a different language (most of the time, anyway), if you know what I mean. Daytime soaps are out and telenovelas are in.

@HumanEarth Spanish-language soap operas, usually of Latin American origin. They’ve grown quite popular in the US in the past decade or so. To the point where it seems they’ve outright replaced American daytime soaps.
