If I'm watching a movie, it's popcorn and not candy. But a midday treat?? It's chocolate every time for me. My fav is going to be a Milky Way (otherwise known as a Mars bar for our non-American friends) ... but I also like Nestle Crunch and Ghirardelli chocolates.
@sarabee1995 mars bars have almonds in them, so not quite milky ways, they're the more sophisticated snickers bars.

@NativePortlander1970 You're thinking of the American Mars bar ... Around the world the M&M/Mars company markets what we call the Milky Way as the Mars bar.
@sarabee1995 Hey @Matt85 what kind of chocolate bar is the mars bar in the UK?

@sarabee1995

In Scotland, you can have your Mars Bar deep fried...

@sarabee1995 @NativePortlander1970 We hve Mars bars and Milky Ways.

Mars bar has a darker "filling" with a soft toffee/caramel layer on top.

The Milky Way filling is lighter in colour and no toffee.

If I am going to have one, I will choose Snickers, as I like the peanuts.
@SchoolBelle Learn something new every day, we also have the dark chocolate milkh ways that was introduced during the pandemic years, but it's called milky way dark.

@NativePortlander1970 Not sure I have seen one of those.
@SchoolBelle I misread your reply, sorry

@NativePortlander1970 🤔 What? I don't understand.
@SchoolBelle Milky way dark uses dark chocolate as a coating, not toffee, or however you described it.
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 Both bars I dezcribed use a milk chocolate coating. The Mars bar has the darker soft filling with a layer of soft toffee.

There is no toffee layer in a Milky Way.
@SchoolBelle Milky way is one of my two top chocolate bars, I would love to see a toffee layer instead of almonds.

@NativePortlander1970 This is getting confusing - looks like we have the same names but for different bars.

I prefer our Mars to our Milky Way but god knows what I would prefer in the States! 😄😄
@SchoolBelle Your mars bar does not exist in the states, ours has almonds not toffee
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 What? That's a sin against confectionery bars!

It's not the same without toffee!
@SchoolBelle I liked it with almonds as a kid, but now I prefer milky ways and twix bars.

@NativePortlander1970
A Mars bar is a nougat-and-caramel candy bar covered in milk chocolate, but its name and exact ingredients vary by region, most notably with the Mars bar in the UK and elsewhere being equivalent to the US Milky Way bar. In the U.S., the Mars Bar was a separate, discontinued product with a different recipe that included almonds.

@NativePortlander1970 Anytime I'm in Europe and in the mood for a Milky Way, I just find a Mars bar. 🙂

@SchoolBelle You beat me to such an erudite explanation of Mars vs Milky Way

@SchoolBelle I would not know what it would be like with toffee
SchoolBelle · 61-69, F
@ArtieKat In vain, it would appear!

As the ad claimed:

A Mars a day
Helps you work, rest and play!

Or, as Marianne Faithful had it:

A Mars a day
Helps you work, rest and play with yourself.

@NativePortlander1970 Without the toffee (caramei), it would be like nothing on earth - or Mars.
@SchoolBelle Our milky way bars have caramel, but not toffee
ArtieKat · M
@SchoolBelle Allegedly!
