In the original King Kong story, does Ann love Kong?

We know Kong loved her, is there any indication that she loved him?
When she was offered the part in King Kong, director Merion Cooper told her, "You're going to have the tallest, darkest leading man in Hollywood".

An excited Wray thought it was Clark Gable, but then he showed her a sketch of a giant ape on the side of the Empire State Building. "There's your leading man," he said.

I remember wanting to believe that, but she was terrified all the time, so I don't think that was the intention.

@DrWatson His death in the 1976 one is brutal and makes him totally sympathetic.

@JimFarris16 I found the original interesting in that I think it tried to make Kong scary and sympathetic at the same time. For example, when the planes take off from the runway at the end, the music is dark and ominous, not "triumphant." And when Kong first gets hit by bullets, he touches his chest, holds up his had with blood on it, and has such a look in his eyes of confusion and pain that it is sadly endearing. Still, he goes on destructive rampages, dealing with downtown Manhattan as if he is in the jungle. For example, when he attacks an elevated train, that scene struck me as him seeing a serpent coming to attack him.

@DrWatson People have interpreted that the 2005 movie has Ann caring more for Kong than those who died trying to save her from him.

No. All she did was scream.
