Why do people enjoy sad movies?

I don't like sad media of any kind. There is more than enough sadness in the world already!

Sadness is familiar to me...it is true to life.

I don't. I can't watch a sad movie, I feel it too much.

It can be a cathartic experience where people are able to release painful emotions without reliving the circumstances that caused them.

There isn’t for me. I hate sad movies and books. I have enough sadness in my life without adding more.

The old concept of catharsis, I assume -- a good flushing out of the emotions.

It's just that's all they're puttin out these days.

Sometimes when one's emotions have been flat, tragic, sad art reawakens them. It makes one feel alive.

Sometimes I like to cry. The release of pent up emotion can feel good.

The human story is interesting to me if done well

Makes their life look happier maybe?
