For sure. A movie I could watch (and have watched) countless times is Ace in the Hole.

Depends on who you ask. Age matters. Many young people have no interest or knowledge of many icons of cinema history.
To them, an 'old movie' is ten years ago.
Way back when, Valentino, Chaplin, Keaton, Fairbanks, and Chaney were well known.....then Garbo, March......Monroe, Taylor..and so it goes.
Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein monster and Elsa Lanchester as Bride of Frankenstein are iconic images that many recognize.

For the longest time back when Chaplin was just that - the most recognizable face and name in the world (in and out of costume).

@bijouxbroussard Older generations probably have seen more of him, I haven't seen him anywhere else so I can't visualize his facial traits. I guess the limits of old technology contributes to it too. I can visualize Buster Keaton better but still...nowadays we see every detail of actors unless they are heavily masked.
It's a bit like trying to imagine Conrad Veidt to me, I saw him in two movies but can only recall the iconic makeup and grin from The man who laughs.

Folks recognize the character but not always the name of the actor.
Lon Chaney as The Phantom of the Opera and Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein monster.
Elsa Lanchester as Bride of Frankenstein.
Bela Lugosi as Dracula.
Lon Chaney, Jr. as The Wolf Man.
Rondo Hatton.....exploited by Hollywood, as he battled with acromegaly that disfigured him, in a number of films, nicknamed 'The Creeper.'

A familiar face for sure. He died way too soon, too. As soon as I googled him then saw his face I immediately thought of another actor who considered himself the ugliest man in Hollywood - a British actor by the name of Harry Wilson who is probably best remembered as one of George Raft's crew in Some Like It Hot.

"Well, nobody's perfect!" (Last line in "Some Like It Hot")
However, Lillian Roth thinks the world of Joe E:
