@Badjujubee I sure hope we're not globally despised. I know sentiments vary from one country to another, but I can tell you from personal experience that across Central & Eastern Europe and Southwestern Asia, I've been almost universally welcomed everywhere I've been.

@sarabee1995 I’ve traveled a lot in my 20s and I have always been fortunate enough to have friends where I was going (usually) but I know that I have had to pay over 3x as much as any other nationality landing in certain countries based off the way that US trade has treated the country. And that’s just one example that comes to mind.

@Badjujubee You had to pay more for what? Lunch at a restaurant? I'm not clear what you are saying? And I'm not sure how what you paid relates to Americans being globally despised? I'm trying to understand what you mean here?

I had to pay 3x as much for entry into some countries. Take Chile 🇨🇱 as an example. It has more to do with the world economy and the global economic system as well as the way the American government operates in relation with other countries. I’m trying to understand what the importance of this particular statement is?? The fact that Americans are globally despised has many factors. For instance Military personnel might be the only Americans that have interacted with some people in their country and they might not have had the best experience…

@Badjujubee Sorry, I was just trying to understand your comment that Americans are globally despised.

This statement runs contrary to my personal experience traveling extensively throughout central and eastern Europe and southwest Asia (essentially from Brussels to Baku and Riga to Beirut and most places in between). Most of these travels were in uniform as a member of the US Navy and I have to say I was warmly welcomed most places I've been. That's why I was curious about your statement.

PS I’m glad that your experience is contrary to my explanation. I don’t think I would say that I have any first hand experience but I did notice in Ireland 🇮🇪 that some locals were not excited to see bus loads of tourists but I live in a touristy area currently and I see plenty of locals who have some opinions about why they don’t like tourists. I believe that much like in Hawaii among other places you have to take the good stuff with the bad when it comes to visitors. I actually enjoy it when I get to interact with people who chose to visit the area I live in. And I have had good experiences myself in my own travels.
