How come animated sitcoms never make the mom dumb instead of the dad?

It's always the dad but never the mom.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Womenses control the purse strings and buy the stuff in the commercials.
@hunkalove commercials are a slice of life
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
The producers are woke?
@ChipmunkErnie White folks’ definition. 🙄
Briggett · T
@bijouxbroussard that’s the perfect explanation
@Briggett my gosh it might indeed be ...
HannahSky · F
They're more like real life
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@HannahSky Oh, come on now! Lol
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
The stereotype before animated sitcoms was a dumb mom and smart dad.

The Simpsons satirized this by reversing the trope.

By doing so they created their own trope of the fun idiot dad and buzzkill smart mom.
@CountScrofula The Flintstones and Jetsons did it decades before the Simpsons, as did Wait Til Your Father Gets Home.
@CountScrofula liza was smart, marge was dumb for staying with homer
Ynotisay · M
TV commercials are famous for it. The husband is the buffoon and the wife is the sensible one who runs the show. It's about selling product.
fishescycle · 26-30
@Ynotisay Pandering to the female ego? See a lot of it on here instead of telling it like it is.

One dude said something like the women's football world champions were as accomplished/talented as the men (when the former champs got trounced by schoolboys) It's nauseating. But hey ladies this new high priced dove soap is great for cleaning up the vomit of dumb man beasts.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
Live action sitcoms do the same thing. Like The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond.
@SubstantialKick I did enjoy watching it on Star World in my country back in the day
deadteddy · 26-30, F
Ever watched King of the Hill? Hank Hill is way smarter than Peggy.
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@deadteddy No, That's interesting
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
@deadteddy that's because Hank been letting off Propane in the house while Peggy breathes in it every day.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
In "Cow and chicken" they are equals.
@Queendragonfly because they are animals of different genres like on Noah's Ark
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@WhisperinAngelic101 Cow And Chicken had human parents.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@SubstantialKick At least the legs 😆
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Not animated, but Peggy Bundy was pretty dumb.

So was Peggy Hill lmao
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@DearAmbellina2113 True, she was also pretty hot, I don't know how Al didn't constantly hit that. Lol
coz their culture is a product of contemporary ideologies, they knew their audience grew up watching that kind stuff, and expect more.
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@WhisperinAngelic101 Thanks.

Briggett · T
Because it’s geared towards a specific demographic and audiences
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@Briggett I would laugh at a dumb mom.
@JimFarris16 I'm sure you would.
Because irl the moms at home watching their kids wouldn't let them watch a show with a dumb mom 😅
The kids are always smarter than both of them.
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@bijouxbroussard Yeah, also not realistic, my parents are still smarter than me. lol
@JimFarris16 I wish to nominate this as best answer
JimFarris16 · 18-21, M
@WhisperinAngelic101 Thanks! It's true, if I was a kid in a sitcom, they'd outsmart me. haha
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Real sitcoms, same thing.
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
because people are babies about it and take offense to it
